What are cardboard sheets?
A cardboard sheet is the plainest item we cut. It is one flat panel of corrugated board, trimmed square, with nothing folded or slotted into it.
That plain shape is why it works in so many places. Anywhere you need a light, stiff layer, a sheet fits.
You will find it with our packing supplies and box inserts, and every order is cut to your measurements.
What are cardboard sheets used for?
Most buyers have one main job in mind. The board's stiffness does the work in each case.
Others find uses we did not expect, like covering a truck bed or lining a shelf in a stockroom.
- Layer pads between rows of cartons on a pallet
- Liners on the base and walls of a carton
- Separators between stacked tiles, plates or frames
- Backers that keep prints and photos flat in a mailer
- Floor and counter cover for painters and installers
- Display boards for craft fairs, classrooms and trade booths
Which board thickness should I choose?
Start with the job. A print backer should be thin and flat. A pallet pad has to spread a load. Floor cover has to survive boots and dropped hardware.
Our flute guide for box buyers goes deeper on each option.
| Board | Thickness | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| E flute single wall | About 1/16 in (1.5 mm) | Print backers, craft projects, thin liners |
| B flute single wall | About 1/8 in (3 mm) | Carton liners, general packing layers |
| C flute single wall | About 5/32 in (4 mm) | Pallet pads, light floor cover |
| BC double wall | About 1/4 in (7 mm) | Heavy loads, base boards, rough floor cover |
How do I work out the right sheet size?
For a carton liner, measure the inside length and width of the base. Subtract about 1/8 in from each dimension so the sheet drops in flat.
Pallet pads follow the footprint of your cartons. If the load overhangs the pallet, match the load. If it sits inside the edge, match the pallet.
For a backer, add roughly 1/2 in around the print on every side. Then the artwork never touches the edge of the board.
Not sure how to take a measurement? Our box measuring guide with examples shows the steps.
How do layer pads keep a pallet stable?
A pallet load is built in tiers. Without a pad, each tier rests only on the rims of the cartons below it. Slightly uneven boxes can then lean or crush.
A sheet between tiers spreads the weight over every carton top. It also locks the tier together, so one box is less likely to slide out.
On the top tier, a sheet gives stretch film and straps a flat surface to grip. Add a set of edge protectors for stacked loads to keep the corners square.
Can cardboard sheets be printed?
Yes, though most sheets stay plain. Printing pays off when a liner carries your logo or a thank-you note that shows as soon as the lid opens.
Contractors sometimes print floor cover with a company name so the job site looks organized.
We print one color, two color or full color CMYK on kraft or on a white face. Our designers set up the artwork free and send a proof before anything runs. You can place a logo on the Design Your Box page.
How should I store and handle cardboard sheets?
Good habits keep sheets straight and strong. Most trouble comes from moisture or stacks left leaning on a wall.
Big sheets are awkward. Have two people lift a full-size pad, and carry it flat instead of folding it under one arm.
- Store sheets flat, never standing on an edge.
- Keep the stack on a shelf or pallet, off bare concrete.
- Use older stock first so nothing sits for months.
- Lay pads with the flutes running the same direction on every tier.
- Tape floor cover at the seams so it does not creep apart.
Can I ship flat items between cardboard sheets?
Yes, and it is a common small order for Etsy and Shopify sellers. Art prints, certificates and calendars bend easily. A sheet on each side keeps them flat.
Cut the sheets about 1/2 in larger than the item. Tape the edges so nothing slides, then slide the bundle into a mailer.
E flute is the usual choice because it keeps the package slim. For framed work, step up to a sturdier carton such as our low-profile flat cardboard boxes.
What mistakes should I avoid when ordering?
The first is sizing a liner to the exact inside dimensions. It snags on the walls and bows in the middle. A small gap fixes that.
The second is picking board that is too light. E flute is great behind a print, but it will not spread the weight of a loaded tier.
The third is damp storage. Sheets left in a cold garage or an open yard go soft fast.
If you are torn between two builds, read about single wall versus double wall board first.
Do you make the matching boxes too?
Yes. Many customers order sheets and cartons together so liners fit from the first shipment. Tell us which box the sheets are for and we size them to match.
One order also saves time at receiving. You get one set of dimensions and no trimming with a utility knife on the packing table.
For brown cartons to pair with them, see our plain cardboard boxes cut to size.

Cardboard Sheets: questions
12 answersCan you cut cardboard sheets to any size?
Yes. Send the length and width in inches, or in mm, and each sheet is cut to those numbers.
Which sheet thickness is best for a pallet?
C flute at about 5/32 in suits most pallet pads. Choose BC double wall at about 1/4 in for heavy loads.
What is a layer pad?
It is a flat sheet placed between tiers of cartons on a pallet. It spreads weight and steadies the stack.
Can I use cardboard sheets to protect floors?
Yes. C flute or BC double wall makes a light, firm cover for painting and remodeling jobs.
Do you offer white cardboard sheets?
Yes. We can supply board with a white paperboard face, which suits printed liners and display backers.
Can a sheet be scored so it folds?
Yes. We add score lines so the sheet folds neatly into a tray, wrap or divider.
What sheet size fits a standard US pallet?
A sheet of 48 × 40 in matches the common pallet footprint. Ask us if your pallet differs.
Can I print my logo on a carton liner?
Yes. We print one color, two color or full color CMYK, so your logo shows when the box opens.
Are sheets good for shipping prints flat?
Yes. An E flute sheet slightly larger than the print stops creases and bent corners.
How do the sheets arrive?
They ship flat in banded stacks or boxed, depending on the size and quantity.
Will I see a proof of printed sheets?
Yes. A free design proof comes first, and nothing is printed until you approve it.
How soon will my custom cut sheets be at my door?
Once you approve the proof, your sheets are made in 4–6 business days. Tracked shipping is free and arrives in 2–3 business days.
