What exactly is a kraft drawer box?
Picture a matchbox scaled up for retail. A shallow tray sits inside a sleeve, and you slide it out from one end. No tape, no tearing, and it closes just as cleanly.
We build the pair from kraft paperboard, the brown stock with a natural, lightly flecked surface. Heavier items can go in an E flute sleeve, about 1/16 in (1.5 mm) thick.
The tray has no lid, so the sleeve keeps dust out and contents in. That makes the fit between the two parts the key detail. Compare it with two piece lid boxes if you prefer a lift-off top.

How do I measure for a drawer box?
Start with the tray, since it holds your product. Measure the item's length, width and height. Add about 1/8 in on each side so it lifts out without a fight.
We size the sleeve from the tray, not from your product. It has to slide freely. It also has to grip enough that the tray stays put when the box is tipped.

What board should a drawer box use?
Kraft paperboard suits most jobs. It scores cleanly, takes ink well and keeps the box slim. Step up to E flute when the contents have real weight, like a glass jar candle.

How does the tray open?
A finger notch is a half-moon cut at the edge of the sleeve. You press the tray from one side or catch its rim with a fingertip. It keeps the box shape clean and simple.
A ribbon pull is a short loop attached to the tray end. Tug it and the drawer glides out. Jewelry brands pick it because it reads as a gift detail.

Can I print on a kraft drawer box?
Yes. Many brands leave the sleeve plain and add one sharp detail. A foil stamped logo, an embossed mark or a single black ink print all work well on brown stock. Gold or copper foil is a long-time favorite.
For full color CMYK artwork, white board shows truer colors. We can also print inside the tray, so a short thank-you note appears as the drawer opens.

Do I need an insert or a window?
An insert keeps the product from sliding around. Slits hold rings upright, and round cut-outs cradle small jars or bottles.

A window is a cut-out on the sleeve that shows part of the tray. Use one when the product or the tray print is the draw.
How do I pack a drawer box step by step?
A drawer box is a presentation piece, not a shipping carton. If it travels to a customer, tuck it inside one of our mailer boxes so the sleeve arrives crisp.
- Fold the tray along its score lines and lock the corner tabs.
- Drop in any insert or crinkle paper first.
- Set the product in, keeping it below the tray rim.
- Push the tray into the sleeve through the plain end, the one with no pull.
- Add a sticker or paper band over the opening for shipping.
What mistakes should I avoid?
Tray depth is the usual slip. If the product rises above the rim, it scrapes the sleeve and the drawer jams.
A loose sleeve is the next trap. It looks fine on a table, then the tray slides out inside a shopping bag. Tell us how customers will carry the box and we will tune the fit.
Last, remember that a drawer box on its own will not survive a trip through the mail. Pair it with small mailing boxes when orders ship.
