What is a six corner box?
A six corner box is a tray with an attached lid, cut from one sheet of board. Six corners are glued during production, so you never handle adhesive or tape.
Lift the side walls and the glued corners snap the tray square. The lid stays hinged along the back wall and tucks into the front.
Because it arrives flat, a big stack takes very little shelf space. It sits in our printed and retail box range with other counter-friendly styles.
Who uses six corner boxes?
Sellers who pack by hand and want a fast, tidy box tend to choose this style. Etsy shops, farmers market bakers and boutique owners order it often.
- Bakeries boxing cupcakes, cookies, slices and whole cakes
- Shopify apparel brands folding tees, scarves and knitwear
- Subscription brands packing a monthly set of small goods
- Caterers and restaurants sending out pastry or sandwich trays
- Event planners making favor boxes for weddings, birthdays and Easter
- Offices handing out welcome kits and branded swag
How does it compare with other lidded boxes?
Several box styles have a lid, but they behave differently at the packing table. This comparison shows where a six corner box fits.
If you want a fully separate lid for keepsake gifts, look at our two piece lid boxes.
| Style | Lid | Set-up | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Six corner box | Hinged, tucks into front wall | Open and use | Counter service, markets, gift tables |
| Mailer box | Hinged, locks with ear flaps | Fold and lock | Online orders that ship to customers |
| Two piece lid box | Separate lid and base | Match two parts | Keepsakes and premium gifts |
| Tuck end box | Flaps at one or both ends | Fold and tuck | Tall or narrow retail items |
What size six corner box should I order?
Start with the product, not the box. Measure the item or the full stack, then add a little room on every side.
For cookies, cupcakes and iced cakes, leave about 3/8 in per side so frosting never brushes the walls. Check the tallest decoration against the wall height.
For gift sets, lay everything out in the order you want it packed. Measure the whole group, including tissue, a card and any ribbon.
For apparel, fold the garment the way a customer will see it, then measure the bundle. A bulging lid looks sloppy, so be generous with height.
Not sure where to measure? Our guide on how to measure a box shows the inside dimensions. Send inches or millimeters and we will convert.
Which board should I choose?
Paperboard is the usual pick for light goods such as chocolates, soaps and tees. It prints crisply and keeps the walls thin.
E flute corrugated, about 1/16 in (1.5 mm), adds stiffness to the floor and walls. Choose it for heavy cakes or filled gift baskets.
Larger trays can use B flute, about 1/8 in (3 mm), though most orders stay with paperboard or E flute. Tell us what the box will hold and we will suggest a board in your quote.
White board gives the truest color. Kraft has a warm brown base, so dark inks stand out and pale inks look softer. The corrugated board flute guide explains the thickness differences.
What print and finish options are available?
The lid top is the panel customers see first, so most brands put the logo there. The front tuck flap suits a short line or a social handle.
Print can be plain, one color, two color or full color CMYK. You can print the outside only or the inside as well.
Uncoated kraft gives a natural bakery look. Matte or gloss lamination suits white board, while spot UV, foil stamping and embossing add polish to gift lids.
Place your logo and check the fold lines in Design Your Box before you send final files. Our designers give free layout help, and a free proof comes before anything is printed.
How do I pack and display six corner boxes?
Open a stack of boxes at the start of a shift. The glued corners keep their shape, so open boxes nest neatly under the counter.
Slide a cake board or parchment paper under baked goods so they lift out cleanly. Close the lid slowly and press the front tuck home with two fingers.
For apparel, lay tissue over the garment before you close the lid. That stops the fold from catching in the tuck.
A sticker or ribbon across the front keeps the lid shut on a display shelf. If you want shoppers to see inside, ask about a lid cut-out, as used on our window boxes for retail display.
What mistakes should I avoid?
Most reprints trace back to a rushed measurement or an artwork detail. A few minutes of checking saves a lot of trouble.
- Measuring the cake board instead of the decorated cake, so the lid presses the frosting
- Choosing deep walls for a flat item that then slides around
- Running text across the back hinge, where it cracks each time the lid opens
- Using paperboard for a heavy gift basket that needs E flute
- Leaving inside print until after the proof is approved
Can I ship orders in six corner boxes?
These boxes are made for hand-offs, counters and local pickup. The tuck front is not meant to survive a package journey alone.
For online orders, put the tray inside an outer carton or seal the lid with tape. If most of your sales ship to customers, a locking mailer box made to size is the safer choice.
Many sellers order both. They use six corner boxes at markets and pop-ups, and mailers for the web store.
Ask for both on one quote and we can match print colors across the two styles.

Six Corner Boxes: questions
12 answersWhat does six corner mean?
It refers to the six glued points that hold the tray walls and lid flaps together. The glue is applied during production, before the box reaches you.
Do I need tape or glue at my end?
No. Open the box and the corners hold. Tape is only worth adding if the box rides inside a shipping carton.
Will a six corner box hold a whole cake?
Yes, in many sizes. Pick an inside height above the tallest decoration, and consider E flute for tiered or heavy cakes.
Can the lid have a window?
Yes. A cut-out can be added to the lid so buyers can see the product. Mention it when you request your quote.
Can I print on the tray floor and under the lid of a six corner box?
Yes. Inside print can go on the tray floor and under the lid. It makes a nice surprise when the box opens.
Can I put food straight into the tray?
Line the tray with parchment paper or a cake board for buttery or moist items. Dry or wrapped goods can sit directly on the board.
How small can a six corner box be?
Small trays for single cupcakes or party favors are common requests. Send your inside size and we will confirm it in your quote.
Do six corner boxes arrive with the corners already glued?
Yes. They come flat with all six corners already glued, so you only lift the walls to open each one. A large order stores in a small space until you need it.
Can filled boxes be stacked?
They stack well when the contents stay below the lid line. Put heavier boxes at the bottom and avoid tall piles of iced goods.
Can I order plain and printed runs together?
Yes. Many shops keep plain kraft for daily use and a printed run for gifts or seasonal sales. We can quote both on one request.
How soon can I get my six corner boxes?
Production runs 4–6 business days once you approve the proof. Delivery then takes 2–3 business days, with free tracked US shipping.
What if my six corner boxes arrive misprinted or crushed?
Email photos within 10 days of delivery. We will reprint the order or refund it if there is a misprint, damage or a defect.
