Quick answer
What are edge protectors?
Edge protectors, also called angle boards, are rigid L-shaped strips made from layered kraft board. They run along the corner of a pallet, carton or panel. Straps, bumps and stacking weight press on the strip instead of the goods.
Key facts

What are cardboard edge protectors?
An edge protector is a firm strip bent into an L. You stand it on a corner, and it takes the hit that would have landed on the goods.
Ours are built from layers of kraft board pressed together and folded into a sharp angle. The strip stays light, yet it resists crushing along its length.

What damage do edge protectors prevent?
Most freight damage starts at a corner. A tight strap can cut into the top cartons. A pallet jack can scrape a side. A flat panel set down hard can crack at the tip.
The angle spreads that pressure across a wider strip of board. It also keeps a stacked load square, so wrap pulls evenly.
- Strap lines pressed into carton corners
- Dented edges on doors and countertops
- Chipped corners on frames and mirrors
- Bulging or leaning pallet stacks
- Scuffs where two items rub together
Who buys cardboard edge protectors?
Distribution centers buy them by the bundle for outbound pallets. Cabinet shops and door makers use them on finished pieces. Sign shops and glass suppliers wrap long flat panels with them.
Etsy and Shopify sellers of large framed prints use short pieces on each frame corner. Office movers and restaurant suppliers also use them on tabletops and shelving.
Wall art sellers will find the shipped package often needs only a modest outer carton once the corners are covered. See our cartons made for flat artwork for that part of the pack.
How do I choose leg size and length?
Length is simple. Measure the edge you want to cover and order that figure. Going slightly short is better than letting the strip stick out past the load.
Leg size follows the weight and size of the goods. Cartons and frames do well with legs near 1 to 1.5 in. Pallet loads and large panels need 2 in legs so straps have more board to press on.
For pallets, measure from the pallet deck to the top layer. The strip should cover every layer of cartons.
| Item | Typical leg size | Typical length |
|---|---|---|
| Small cartons and canvases | 1 to 1.5 in | Height of each corner |
| Framed art and mirrors | 1.5 in | Each side of the frame |
| Half-height pallet loads | 1.5 in | About 40 in |
| Full-height pallet loads | 2 in | About 48 to 60 in |
| Doors and long panels | 2 in | Full length of the edge |
How do I put edge protectors on a pallet?
Once the load is stacked, each corner takes a few seconds. The order matters because the wrap and strapping are what hold the strips in place.
- Stack the cartons square so the corners line up.
- Anchor the first turns of stretch wrap around the pallet base.
- Stand one edge protector on each upright corner.
- Wrap upward over the strips so they stay put.
- Lay short strips across the top edges where straps will cross.
- Tighten the straps over those top strips and seal them.
Can I get my logo printed on edge protectors?
Yes. Printed strips protect the load and tell the receiving dock who sent it. They also stand out among plain pallets.
We print one color or two color along a single leg. Typical lines are a company name, a web address, or a note like "Fragile" or "This side up". Our designers set the layout free and send a proof before anything is printed.

Do edge protectors work inside a box too?
They do, especially for items with hard corners. A short strip on each corner of a frame keeps the frame off the carton walls. A dent in the carton then stops short of the glass.
Pair them with flat board on the faces for a complete pack. Our cardboard sheets for flat protection cover the large surfaces while the angles cover the edges.
What mistakes should I avoid with angle boards?
The biggest one is cutting them too short. If a strip ends halfway up the stack, straps still bite the top cartons. Cover the full height.
Another is adding them after the wrap. Loose strips slide away the moment a pallet jack lifts the load. Place them first, then wrap.
The last one is forgetting the top edges. Straps cross the top as well as the sides. A short strip under each strap keeps the upper layer from being cut.
Can I reuse or recycle edge protectors?
Often, yes. If the angle is still sharp and the board is dry, a strip can protect another load. Store used ones flat and off the floor so they stay straight.
When a strip is crushed or wet, it is kraft board with no foam or plastic attached. Check your local recycling rules, but it usually goes out with other cardboard.
How many edge protectors does one pallet need?
A strapped load needs at least four upright strips, one per vertical corner. If straps cross the top, add a short piece under each strap on each side.
Say two straps run over a square load. That adds four short pieces, so eight in total per pallet. Loads that carry another pallet on top gain from strips on all four top edges.
Work out the count for one pallet, then multiply by your weekly volume. That gives you a sensible order size. Pair the strips with sturdy cartons such as our double wall cartons for heavy loads.
How do I order edge protectors?
Pricing starts from $0.30 a box across our range, and the exact figure for your strips is sent in the quote by email within one business day. Send us the leg size, length, quantity and any print through the quote request page, by email, or on WhatsApp.

Edge Protectors: questions
12 answersWhat are your edge protectors made of?
They are layers of kraft board pressed together and folded into a rigid L-shaped angle.
Are edge protectors and angle boards the same thing?
Yes. Both names describe the same L-shaped strip that guards corners and edges.
How long should a pallet edge protector be?
Long enough to cover every layer of cartons, measured from the pallet deck to the top of the load.
Can you cut strips to a custom length?
Yes. Give us the length you need in inches and each strip is cut to it.
Which leg size should I pick?
Legs near 1 to 1.5 in suit cartons and frames. Legs of 2 in suit pallets and big panels.
Can I print my logo on them?
Yes. We print one color or two color along one leg, such as a company name or handling note.
Will they stop strap marks on my cartons?
Yes. The strip spreads strap pressure over more board, so the carton corners are not cut.
Can I use them inside a carton?
Yes. Short strips on a frame or panel corner keep it clear of the carton walls.
Can edge protectors be used more than once?
Often. If the angle is still sharp and the board is dry, it can go on another load.
How do they arrive?
They come as straight lengths in bundles, ready to place on the corner.
Do I see a proof before printing?
Yes. Printed orders get a free design proof, and nothing is printed until you approve it.
How soon will my cut edge protector strips ship?
After you approve the proof, we make your strips in 4 to 6 business days. Free tracked US shipping then takes 2 to 3 business days.
