Reusable MailersFrom $0.30 a boxHow does a mailer box differ from a postal box?
A mailer box is a folding box that ships by itself. Most have a lid hinged at the back and a front flap that tucks in. The side walls fold over, which gives the box double thickness where it takes the most knocks.
Postal box is the wider label. It includes boxes that open at the end or side, boxes that lock at the bottom, and styles built to slide into a mailbox or onto a doorstep. The bags in this range cover orders that do not need a rigid box at all.
Most shops begin with our classic tuck front mailer boxes and add other styles as the catalog grows.
How do the 17 mailer styles compare?
Use the middle column to match a style to what you sell. The last column shows how each one closes or protects.
| Box | Best for | Key detail |
|---|---|---|
| Mailer Boxes | Online orders and branded unboxing | Tuck front lid, no tape needed |

| Ear Lock Mailer Boxes | Gift sets and influencer packages | Side tabs lock the lid shut |
| End Opening Mailer Boxes | Kits and items stored on shelves | Opens on the short end |
| Tuck Top Mailer Boxes | Taller items such as bottles | Lid tucks in across the top |
| Side Loading Mailers | Books, prints and documents | Goods slide in from the side |
| Double Sided Printed Mailers | Brands that want a story inside | Print on both faces of the board |
| Mailer Boxes with Inserts | Jars, bottles and multi-item sets | Cut-out insert holds each piece |
| Fragile Item Mailers | Glass, ceramics and candles | Thicker board plus inner support |

Who buys mailers, and what do they ship?
Anyone who sells online ends up needing a mailer. The package lands on the porch looking finished, and the customer opens it like a gift.
Etsy and Shopify sellers order the most. Subscription brands, apparel labels, gift shops and cosmetics startups follow. Agencies use our media mailer boxes for press kits for launches and influencer drops.
Many buyers start with plain kraft and add a printed logo once orders settle. The size and board stay the same. Only the artwork and the proof change.
- Etsy and Shopify sellers shipping daily
- Subscription boxes on a monthly cycle
- Apparel labels sending folded garments
- Agencies building press and creator kits
- Publishers mailing catalogs and books
- Candle, soap and ceramic makers
Should I choose a box, a bag or a padded envelope?
A box holds its shape and resists crushing. Pick one for anything that can scratch, dent or break, and for orders where the unboxing matters.
A paper or film bag weighs less and lies flatter. That can move a package into a cheaper shipping tier. Bags work well for tees, hoodies and paperbacks.
Padded envelopes sit in the middle. They suit small, firm goods that need a little cushion. Our paper padded mailers for small gadgets explain how the lining works.
| Format | Protection | Weight and shape | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mailer box | High | Heavier, fixed shape | Gifts, cosmetics, breakables |
| Padded paper mailer | Medium | Light and slim | Accessories, small electronics |
| Kraft paper mailer | Low | Very light and flat | Apparel and soft goods |
| Compostable mailer | Low | Very light and flat | Folded textiles |
Which closure works best on a packing line?
The closure decides how fast you can pack and how the box feels to open. Choose it before you settle the board and print.
A tuck front lid needs no tape. Ear locks add two small tabs for a firmer hold. With a self seal box you peel a liner and press down, which saves seconds on every order. Our self seal boxes with an adhesive strip suit high daily volume.
Bags close with a peel and seal flap. Reusable bags carry a second strip so the customer can send the item back.
- Tuck front: quick, tidy, no tape
- Ear lock: tighter hold for heavier sets
- Self seal: fastest at a busy table
- End or side opening: slide the item in
- Peel and seal flap: paper and film bags
How do I size a mailer so it ships for less?
A close fit keeps shipping costs down. Measure the product, add a little room for tissue or an insert, then send us the inside length, width and height in inches.
Height often matters most. A box that is a quarter inch too deep can push a package into a higher price tier. A tea tin might sit in an 8 × 6 × 2 in box, while a folded sweatshirt may need 12 × 10 × 3 in. Tiny items fit our small mailing boxes for compact items.
For bags, give the flat width and length. A bag loses some usable size as it fills, so allow for the thickness of the goods.
If you sell several products, try to fit two or three into one box size. Fewer sizes mean longer runs and a lower cost per box.
Which board and wall thickness should I pick?
Most mailers use single wall E flute, about 1/16 in (1.5 mm). It folds cleanly, prints sharply and keeps the box light. B flute, about 1/8 in (3 mm), suits larger boxes or heavier goods.
For glass, ceramics and heavy gift sets, double wall BC flute at about 1/4 in (7 mm) gives much more crush resistance. Our fragile item mailers for glass and ceramics pair thicker board with inner support.
Choose white paperboard for bright color print. Choose kraft for a natural brown look, especially with one ink.
What can I print on a mailer?
The mailer is often the first thing a customer touches from your brand. Print on the outside makes the box easy to spot on a porch. Print on the inside adds a small surprise when the lid opens.
You can leave either face plain, or use one color, two colors or full color CMYK. Matte or gloss lamination, spot UV, foil stamping and embossing add a premium feel. For ideas on using both faces, see double sided printed mailers with inside art.
Every job gets a free design proof before anything is printed. Our designers will tidy your layout at no charge.
What mistakes make mailers cost more?
The costliest error is a box that is slightly too big. It needs filler, looks loose when opened and can raise shipping charges. Measure twice before you order.
Another is heavy board on light goods. E flute is plenty for most apparel and cosmetics, and it keeps package weight low.
Loose multi-item kits are a third problem. Pieces knock together in transit. A cut-out insert fixes that, and mailer boxes with fitted inserts are cut to each item.
Finally, plan the opening order. Place the thank-you card on top so it is the first thing the customer sees.
How do I order mailer boxes?
Start with the quote form, or open Design Your Box to see your logo on a mailer. Brands that expect returns often begin with reusable mailers with a return strip.
- Pick a style from the comparison table.
- Measure your product and add room for tissue or an insert.
- Choose a board, or ask us to suggest one.
- Select the print and finish for each face.
- Send your logo file, or ask a designer to lay it out.
- Approve the free design proof.
- Allow 4–6 business days for production and 2–3 business days for free tracked shipping.
When are paper and film bags the better choice?
Not every order needs a box. Kraft paper bags with a seal strip suit apparel, books and prints. Padded versions add a cushioning layer.
Compostable bags use a film meant to break down under the right conditions. Ask us which film is used and check local disposal rules. Our kraft paper mailers for soft goods are the simplest all-paper choice.
Bags are sized by flat width and length. They print well in one or two colors, and paper styles can take full color.
Mailer and Postal Boxes: questions
12 answersHow does a mailer box differ from a postal box?
A mailer box is usually the one-piece tuck front style with a hinged lid. Postal box is a broader name for any box built for mail, including end opening and lock bottom styles.
Do mailer boxes need tape?
You do not need tape for ear lock or tuck front mailers, because both fasten on their own. Self seal boxes use a built-in adhesive strip, so they need none either.
Which board is best for a mailer box?
E flute at about 1/16 in suits most light goods. For heavier or fragile items, choose B flute at about 1/8 in or double wall BC flute at about 1/4 in.
Can I print inside a mailer box?
Yes. Print can go inside, outside or on both faces. Options run from one color up to full color CMYK.
Are paper mailers strong enough for books?
Kraft paper mailers work for paperbacks and soft goods. Hardcovers and collectible copies are safer in a side loading mailer or a padded paper mailer.
What is a reusable mailer?
It is a mailing bag with a second adhesive strip. The customer opens the bag, then uses the spare strip to send a return in it.
How are compostable mailers disposed of?
They are made to break down under the right composting conditions. Ask us which film we use, and check what your local program accepts.
How much do mailer boxes cost?
Prices start from $0.30 a box. We work out the exact figure from your size, board, ink and run length, then send it in your email quote within one business day.
How fast can I get mailer boxes?
Once you approve the proof, your boxes spend 4–6 business days in production. Free tracked shipping then takes 2–3 business days.
Do you ship mailers to every state?
Yes. Shipping is free and tracked to any US address, including your warehouse, home office or fulfillment partner.
Can inserts be added to a mailer box?
Yes. We cut corrugated or paperboard inserts to hold each item in place, sized to your products.
What if my mailers arrive misprinted?
Email us photos within 10 days. Misprinted, damaged or defective mailers are reprinted or refunded.
