What is a double sided printed mailer?
Most printed mailers have ink on the outer face only. The inside stays bare brown or white board.
A double sided mailer adds a second print run on the inner face. The walls, the base and the underside of the lid all show your artwork.
The box folds the same way as our standard custom mailer boxes. Only the printing changes.
Why print the inside of a mailer?
The outside has a job to do. It carries a shipping label, takes some rough handling and needs to look tidy on a porch.
The inside is different. Only your customer sees it, and they see it at the best moment, right when they open the box.
That makes it a good spot for a thank-you line, a discount code or a bold color that feels too loud outside. Shoppers who film unboxing videos will show the inside to the camera.
Inside print also sticks around. People who keep the box for storage see your brand every time they lift the lid.
How do I divide artwork between the two sides?
Think of the inside of the lid as your headline. It is the largest panel and it faces the customer as the box swings open.
You can plan the layout panel by panel in Design Your Box before you order.
- Outside: logo, web address and one calm brand color
- Inside lid: your main message, greeting or care steps
- Inside walls: a repeating pattern or a solid color
- Inside base: a small surprise, seen once the product comes out
- Front flap: a short line that appears as the lid lifts
Which board prints best on both sides?
White board gives the brightest color. Kraft gives a warm, natural base where white ink and dark inks stand out.
You can also mix them, for example white outside and kraft inside. We confirm the exact build in your quote.
If the inside is a solid color flood, the board underneath matters little. For a fine line pattern, the board color becomes part of the look. The corrugated board flute guide explains the thickness choices.
| Board | Thickness | How the print looks |
|---|---|---|
| White E flute | About 1/16 in (1.5 mm) | Bright, true color on both sides |
| Kraft E flute | About 1/16 in (1.5 mm) | Warm tones; white ink pops |
| White B flute | About 1/8 in (3 mm) | Good color with firmer walls |
| Kraft B flute | About 1/8 in (3 mm) | Natural look for heavier products |
Does printing both sides raise the price?
Yes, somewhat. The board goes through a second print run, and the extra depends on ink coverage and the number of colors.
A one color inside costs less than a full color photo. Many brands keep the outside on plain kraft with one color and put full color inside.
Our mailers start from $0.30 a box. The exact figure comes by email within one business day, and you can request a quote with both options to compare.
Quantity helps too. The setup for the second side is spread over every box, so the extra cost per box drops as the run grows.
How do I set up artwork for inside and outside?
You get two dielines, one for each face. Each marks the panels, folds, cuts and bleed.
Remember that the inside is a mirror image of the outside. The lid sits in the same spot, but left and right swap. If you are unsure about dimensions, read how to measure a box first. Our designers will check the layout for free.
- Place your artwork on each dieline and keep text inside the safe area.
- Carry every background color out to the bleed line along all edges.
- Send files as PDF, AI, SVG or high-resolution PNG or JPG.
- Review the free design proof for both sides.
- Once you sign off, the boxes go into production for 4–6 business days.
Which finishes suit a two-sided print?
For the outer face you can choose embossing, foil stamping, spot UV, or lamination in matte or gloss. Lamination also helps the outer face resist scuffs while it travels.
Most brands leave the inside uncoated or matte, since a softer surface feels nice in the hand. Foil inside the lid looks sharp, but keep it to a logo or one short line.
Embossing pushes through the board. A raised logo outside shows up as a shallow dip inside, so keep inside text away from that spot.
What mistakes should I avoid with two-sided printing?
Our team flags these on the proof. Still, a quick check before you send files saves a round of changes.
Also look at the box closed, not only flat. A layout that works on screen can line up oddly once the walls fold.
- Forgetting that the inside dieline is mirrored
- Placing small text across a fold, where it cracks or hides
- Using a pale inside color on kraft, where it blends into the brown
- Putting the key message on a flap that tucks out of sight
- Embossing the outside right behind important inside text
What goes well with a double sided mailer?
A printed interior often replaces extras. Some brands drop tissue and loose leaflets because the message already lives on the box.
Others add a card insert or paper shred in a matching color. To seal the box with your branding, look at custom printed packing tape.
Brand colors can shift a little between board, tape and card stock. Ask us for advice on matching before you commit to a run.

Double Sided Printed Mailers: questions
12 answersWhat is a double sided printed mailer?
It is a mailer box with ink on both the outside and inside faces of the board. Each face can carry its own design.
Can the inside and outside use different colors?
Yes. Each side is printed separately, so you could run full color outside and one color inside, or the reverse.
Will the inside print show through on the outside?
No. Corrugated board is opaque, so each face keeps its own artwork without ghosting.
Is printing both sides much more expensive?
It adds a second print run, so it costs more than one side. A single color inside keeps the increase small.
Which board gives the brightest color?
White E flute, at about 1/16 in (1.5 mm), gives the brightest and most accurate color on both faces.
Can I print on kraft inside and out?
Yes. Kraft gives a warmer look. Dark inks and white ink show up best on brown board.
Do you provide dielines?
Yes. We send an outside dieline and an inside dieline with your quote, marked with folds, cuts and bleed.
Can I add foil stamping to the inside?
Yes. Foil works inside the lid, and it looks best on a logo or a short line of text.
Does embossing affect the inside artwork?
It can. A raised area outside becomes a shallow dip inside, so keep inside text clear of it.
Can your designers help with the layout?
Yes. Our designers give free layout help for both sides, and every order gets a free design proof.
What if the inside or outside print on my mailers comes out wrong?
Send photos within 10 days of delivery. If either side is misprinted, or the mailers are damaged or defective, we reprint them or refund you.
How soon will my double sided mailers arrive?
Once you approve the proof, production runs 4–6 business days. Free tracked shipping then adds 2–3 business days.
