What are custom printed boxes?
Custom printed boxes are made to the inside size you give us and carry your own artwork. The style, the board and the print are all chosen to suit what goes inside.
Picture a kraft mailer with a one color logo on the lid. Picture a white carton with a full color photo and a glossy logo. Both count as custom printed boxes.
This is the widest category on the site. Each individual style also has its own page in our full printed and retail box range.
Who buys custom printed boxes in the US?
Etsy and Shopify sellers order them so a first unboxing feels planned. Subscription brands use them to make every monthly shipment look the same.
Restaurants and bakeries print takeout and gift boxes. Offices order them for welcome kits and client thank-you gifts.
Many buyers start with one style for their best seller and add more as the line grows. Keeping the same colors and logo spot on every box ties the range together. Our page on packaging for small business owners has more ideas.
- Online shops that want a memorable unboxing
- Skincare and cosmetics brands that need shelf cartons
- Bakeries and candy makers selling gift sets
- Craft and stationery sellers with boxed kits
- Event planners sending favors and invitations
- Companies shipping welcome kits to new hires
Which printed box style fits my product?
Think about how the box travels and how a customer will open it. A box that sits on a store shelf has a different job from one that rides in a truck.
| Style | How it opens | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Mailer box | Lid folds over and tucks in at the front | Online orders and subscription kits |
| Tuck end carton | Flaps close at the top and bottom | Retail shelves, cosmetics, supplements |
| Sleeve and tray | Tray slides out of a printed sleeve | Gifts, candy and accessories |
| Two piece lid box | Lid lifts straight off the base | Premium gifts and keepsakes |
| Hinged lid box | Lid swings back on a hinge | Presentation sets and displays |
| Window box | Any style with a die-cut opening | Showing the product through the box |
How does box printing work, and what does it cost?
You can leave a box plain or print it in one color, two colors or full color CMYK. One or two colors suit logos and simple patterns. CMYK handles photos, gradients and detailed art.
Inside print is a separate pass. A bold color under the lid is often the part customers remember and photograph.
Pricing starts from $0.30 a box. The exact figure depends on size, board, colors and finishes, and it arrives in your quote by email. Send a quote request with your details and we reply within one business day.
Which finishes can I add to a printed box?
Finishes change how a box feels in the hand and how it catches light. Choose one or two and use them where you want the eye to land.
- Uncoated kraft: a natural, earthy surface with no shine
- Matte lamination: a soft touch that looks great with dark colors
- Gloss lamination: bright, punchy color with a shine
- Spot UV: a clear gloss layer on just the logo or a pattern
- Foil stamping: metallic logos, borders and lettering
- Embossing: a raised logo you can feel with a fingertip
Which board should I pick for a printed box?
Anything that ships should be corrugated, because the fluted layer cushions bumps. E flute is about 1/16 in (1.5 mm) thick and gives fine print and tidy folds. B flute at about 1/8 in (3 mm) and C flute at about 5/32 in (4 mm) add strength.
Double wall BC flute, about 1/4 in (7 mm), is there for the heaviest products. Kraft or white paperboard suits shelf cartons and sleeves, and white gives the brightest color.
Not sure? Tell us what the product is and how it ships. Our flute guide for corrugated board explains each thickness.
How do I get my artwork ready for printing?
Clean files lead to a fast proof. Our designers help for free, but a few steps on your side save a round of changes.
You can also try your logo placement on the Design Your Box page before you ask for a quote.
- Vector artwork works best for your logo: AI, EPS, SVG or a vector PDF.
- List your brand colors, with CMYK values if you have them.
- Say which panel gets what: lid, front, sides and inside.
- Keep important text about 1/4 in away from folds and edges.
- Review the proof for spelling, phone numbers and barcodes.
- Approve the proof by email so production can begin.
How do I choose the right size?
Measure the product at its longest, widest and tallest points. Include caps, handles and any wrap around it. Add a little room so it slides in without a fight.
We make every box to an inside length × width × height in inches, such as 9 × 6 × 3 in. Millimeters are accepted too. A snug fit looks sharp on a shelf, while a shipped box needs extra space for padding.
If you plan to add an insert, size the insert first and the box second. Our guide on how to measure a box shows each step.
What mistakes should I avoid with printed boxes?
The first is a fuzzy logo. An image pulled from a website often looks soft once it is printed across a lid.
Next comes text that runs over a fold. A word split at a corner is hard to read, so keep key lines on one panel.
Many people forget the inside. A plain inside can feel flat after a bold outside, and one printed color there is a small step up.
Another trap is stacking finishes. One special finish, used well, often looks richer than three fighting for attention.
Last, do not order before the product is final. If a jar or kit changes size after the proof, the box may no longer fit. Fix the product first, then the box, and consider corrugated inserts that hold products in place.
How long do custom printed boxes take to arrive?
Proofing time depends on how fast the artwork settles, so allow for a round or two of tweaks. After you approve the proof, production takes 4–6 business days.
Free tracked shipping to any US address then takes 2–3 business days. You can read how free US shipping works before you order.
Do you have a launch, trade show or holiday date? Put it in your quote request. Orders for Halloween, Valentine's Day or Thanksgiving gifting go smoothest when the artwork is settled early.
How do I order custom printed boxes?
Send the style, size, board, print colors, finishes and quantity. Minimums are low and quoted per job, so tell us what you need and we will price it.
If a box arrives misprinted, damaged or defective, report it within 10 days with photos. We reprint it or refund you. Details are on our returns and reprint page.

Custom Printed Boxes: questions
12 answersCan the inside of the box be printed too?
Yes. The inner lid and walls can carry their own artwork, from one color to full color CMYK.
What file type works best for my logo?
Vector files print the sharpest. Use AI, EPS, SVG or a vector PDF. If you only have a JPG or PNG, our designers can help.
Which box styles can carry custom print?
Mailers, tuck end cartons, sleeve and tray sets, hinged and two piece lid boxes, and window boxes can all be printed.
Should I choose kraft or white for printing?
White paperboard gives the brightest color and suits full color art. Kraft has a natural look and works well for one or two color logos.
What does spot UV do?
It adds a clear gloss coat to chosen areas only, such as a logo. Those spots shine against a matte surface.
Can my logo be foil stamped?
Yes. Foil stamping gives logos, borders and lettering a metallic finish.
Will I see my design before printing starts?
Yes. You get a free design proof first, and nothing is printed until you approve it.
Can a printed box have a window?
Yes. A die-cut window can be added to suitable styles so shoppers see the product without opening the box.
How much do custom printed boxes cost?
Pricing starts from $0.30 a box. The exact figure depends on size, board, colors and finishes, and it comes in your quote by email.
Do printed boxes ship flat, and will my artwork line up once folded?
Most styles ship flat and fold up by hand. Your artwork is laid out on the proof so it lines up across the panels once the box is folded. Flat boxes also save storage space in your stockroom.
How long until my printed boxes arrive?
Production takes 4–6 business days after proof approval. Free tracked shipping adds 2–3 business days.
Can your designers make the artwork for me?
Our designers offer free layout help. Send your logo, colors and text, and we will arrange them on the proof for your review.
