Quick answer
What are double wall tuck front boxes?
A double wall tuck front box is a one-piece folding mailer. Its hinged lid has a front flap that tucks into the base. The board is BC double wall corrugated, about 1/4 in (7 mm) thick, so the walls take bumps better than a standard mailer.

What is a double wall tuck front box?
It is a folding mailer made from one sheet of corrugated board. The lid hinges at the back, and the front flap slips inside the base to close.
Most boxes in this style use single wall board. This one uses BC flute, which stacks two flutes between three liners for about 1/4 in of total thickness.
If your goods are lighter, our standard printed mailer boxes may be enough.
Who buys double wall tuck front boxes?
Sellers usually arrive here after a single wall mailer came back dented. The customer still wants an unboxing moment, but the goods need a firmer shell.
- Candle makers on Etsy and Shopify shipping glass jars
- Hot sauce and spirits brands sending boxed bottles
- Pottery studios packing mugs, bowls and vases
- Subscription brands with heavy monthly sets
- Bakeries and gift shops sending tins and hampers
Is double wall worth it compared with single wall?
For heavy or breakable goods, usually yes. The extra flute adds cushion, and the rolled sides already double up the board at the walls.
There is a cost in bulk. Double wall folds less tightly, so a very small box can look chunky. Under about 6 in long, single wall tends to look neater. Read our guide on single wall versus double wall board before you decide.
| Feature | Single wall tuck front | Double wall tuck front |
|---|---|---|
| Typical board | B, C or E flute, 1/16 to 5/32 in | BC flute, about 1/4 in |
| Feel in the hand | Light and neat | Firm and solid |
| Best for | Apparel, books, light gifts | Glass, ceramics, heavy sets |
| Small sizes | Fold crisply | Can look bulky |
Measuring your goods for a tuck front box
Start with the goods, packed the way they will ship. Add room for tissue or an insert if you plan to use one.
Give us the inside length, width and height in inches. Thick board makes the outside noticeably larger, so tell us if your carrier has a size limit. We will check the outer dimensions for you.
Height deserves care on this style. If a bottle cap sits above the walls, the lid will not tuck in. Our guide on how to measure a box shows each step.
- Set the goods in place as they will sit in the box.
- Measure length across the long side, then width, then height to the highest point.
- Add space for any insert, tissue or wrapping.
- Send the inside size and mention any outer limit.
Can I print on the inside and outside of the box?
Yes. The underside of the lid is the first thing a customer sees. Sellers often put a thank you note, a pattern or a care card there.
We print plain, one color, two color or full color CMYK. Solid color boxes look sharp in this style, and a single logo on kraft is a favorite for craft brands.
Matte or gloss lamination, spot UV, foil stamping and embossing are all available. Our designers help with layout for free, and you see a free proof before anything is printed. Browse more custom printed boxes for other styles.
Do I need an insert inside a double wall mailer?
For one heavy item, the thick walls may do the job alone. For sets, or for glass pieces that must not touch, an insert holds each one still.
Corrugated inserts give the most cushion. Folding carton inserts are lighter and take print, which suits gift sets where the layout is part of the look. See our packing supplies and inserts for options.
Tell us how much each piece weighs when you request a quote. A full bottle needs a deeper cradle than an empty-looking jar of the same height.
Folding and closing a tuck front box, step by step
Lay the flat box with the print side down. Raise the front and back walls, then roll the side panels over and press the locking tabs into the base slots.
Place the goods and fold the dust flaps over them. Bring the lid across and push the front tuck flap down inside the front wall. The side ears lock the lid.
Many shippers add a strip of tape or a sticker across the front edge. It adds security and shows the box was not opened in transit.
Thick board needs firm creases the first time. After a dozen boxes, most packers fold one in under a minute.
What mistakes should I avoid with double wall mailers?
The first is picking double wall for a tiny box. Heavy rolled walls can make the lid hard to close.
The second is ignoring the outer size. A box that fits your goods may land in a higher shipping rate bracket. Our guide to the cheapest way to ship boxes explains how size affects cost.
The third is placing artwork near the folds. Thick board takes more room at each crease, so keep small text well back from the edges.
Last, leave a little extra length at each end. The dust flaps need space to lie flat over the goods.

Double Wall Tuck Front Boxes: questions
12 answersWhat does tuck front mean on a mailer box?
The lid has a flap at its front edge. That flap slides inside the front wall of the base and holds the box shut.
How thick is BC double wall board?
It measures about 1/4 in, or 7 mm. Two flute layers sit between three flat liners.
Is this box stronger than a regular mailer?
Yes, the extra flute layer resists dents and crushing better than single wall board. That helps with glass, ceramics and heavy sets.
Can I print inside the lid?
Yes. Inside print is popular here because the lid is the first surface a customer sees on opening.
Do I need tape to seal it?
Not to close it. The tuck flap and side ears hold the lid. Tape or a sticker adds security if you want it.
Can I order solid color boxes?
Yes. We print solid colors and full color CMYK artwork on kraft or white board.
Can you add dividers or cradles for bottles?
Yes. We can cut corrugated or folding carton inserts to hold each item in place.
Should I pick double wall for a small box?
Often not. Under about 6 in long, single wall folds more cleanly and looks less bulky.
Do the boxes arrive flat or built?
They ship flat. You fold each one by hand in a few moves, with no glue.
What does a double wall tuck front box cost?
Pricing starts from $0.30 a box. Size, print and finish set the exact figure, which we send in your quote by email.
How soon will my order arrive?
Once you approve the proof, printing and assembly take 4 to 6 business days. Free tracked shipping then adds 2 to 3 business days.
What happens if my boxes are misprinted?
Send photos within 10 days of arrival. We will reprint the order or refund you.
